Dear Dan/Video Maru,
About one month ago, I attended your presentation to the Los Angeles Flash Users Group meeting in Venice, CA at the Rich Media Institute. Upon receiving the email invite from the group and seeing video I was excited. Flash and video seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue in my line of work (webmaster) and in my office.
I know just enough Flash to be dangerous or to get in trouble. Our company, a public government agency, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Los Angeles) is LIMITED in terms of budget and hasn’t invested in developers to add the type of functionality needed.
Although now in a PC environment, being raised on a Mac and having well thought out applications that allows a designer like me to concentrate on the user experience and design INSTEAD of writing code (but first learning the language) is always my dilemma.
Our agency is bound by laws that require our content onsite to be accessible in relation to Section 508 and the W3C Accessible guidelines, so I’ve been search for an easy way to incorporate captions into our videos and build a custom player with the functionality we need as a public agency.
I must say that for me your presentation was the highlight of the evening of great information! R’s presentation on video touching on captioning was awesome, but your follow up demo on Video Maru was the bomb!
You’ve taken most of the basic work out of deploying video quickly and efficiently. Within two short evenings (after work), I had completed the tutorials and had developed a basic player that delivers our video WITH captioning. I am working with our techs to deploy our Flash Media Server to stream our videos and I’m sure your tutorial on that will come in handy.
What a great idea and your documentation (video tutorials) had me up and running in a couple of days (http://www.metro.net/imagine/) with a basic player and I hope to have a more robust multi-player up shortly.
Thanks again, you ROCK!
Joe Simpson
